I don’t know why but in January or the mid winter in general I always get bitten by a cooking bug! Always. I get this urge to get our freezer stocked up for the long winter months. (Although I rarely get to the point of actually freezing them up.) So I start browsing cookbooks and at the end of my reading I totally feel like Nigella or Jamie Oliver thinking that I can do it all! So when I want to try something new from a cookbook, my limit is to do two new recipes in one week. No more than that. I have to keep my feet on the ground and be realistic. It has happened a couple of times before that when I get one of these cooking inspirations, I get all excited, go shopping for groceries and sometimes I have to get expensive ingredients, different oils for example. And then I realize that I don’t have the time to execute my want to do or try recipes. Something else comes up. I forget. Or simply I just get lazy.

My Christmas gift to myself was Oh She Glows newest cookbook. I got the first one a couple of years ago when it came out, and I loved it so much that I had to get this new one as well. It’s full of notes already. What I usually do with a cookbook in my hands is that I rip a piece of paper or put a little sticky note between the recipes what I want to do in a couple of days or try them in the future. And now that I’ve been browsing through this new book – pretty much all the recipes look so delicious and pretty simple. Easiness and simplicity are really important to me.

A cold weather and snow on the ground, also somebody on the news said that there will be plenty more snow this coming weekend. So I want to make something comforting like chili or stew. I haven’t quite decided yet 🙂 Can’t wait to get started though!

Happy New Year y’all!

Somehow I got a snowball in my right eye on the New Year’s Eve!!!!!! But thank GOD I made it to 2017 without a black eye 😀 Just a swollen eyebrow. Gosh 😀 Anyone else there made it alive into the new year? 😀

So many things can fit in our past year and I can’t believe that we actually did all that! I felt that a little 2016 recap is in order. So I put together my personal highlights of 2016. We were on the road pretty steadily and no wonder when I was packing for our weekend getaway to Vancouver Island in early December I felt like that I’ve been packing a lot this year.

A weekend getaway in Seattle. One of my favourite cities to visit and go shopping. I love the easy going atmosphere there.

First time in Dominican Republic was jaw dropping. Crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. That place was so gorgeous and I can’t believe that we were actually there now that I’m looking at these pictures.

Soon after our Dominican trip we finally took the bull by the horns and got ourselves kayaks! One of the best purchases in 2016.

Maui. Oh Maui. Not our first time there but it was a time to revisit although we didn’t plan to go there at all. It just happened in its own weird way. We had so much fun that we are planning our trip back to Hawaii now!

This is one of my favourite summer moments in our neighbourhood. We got a lot of rain during the summer and every place was blooming. So beautiful!

We hiked beautiful Joffre Lakes in the late summer and I wanna do it again this year!

No summer without a trip to the Okanagan Valley <3 We celebrated my birthday there and soon after this my hubby surprised me with a helicopter ride around our “backyard”  and that was insane. 😀

This fall we got to go to NEW YORK! That was something else! That place was so huge that I’m still processing the trip to this day 😀 Can’t wait to go back though!

Last but definitely not least. Long weekend in Ucluelet. I know I have many favourite places 😀 especially highlighted in this post. But one thing is for sure that this place has something that I cannot explain no matter how much I try. You have to experience it for yourself.

Would love to hear your highlights of 2016? And have you started planning 2017 already?

It’s the night of the dear Saviour’s birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices. For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!  O night divine, the night when Christ was born!

“Truly He taught us to love one another, His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains He shall break, for the slave is our brother. And in His name al oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, with all our hearts we praise His holy name. Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we, His power and glory ever more proclaim! “

Let us all remember the real reason for the season!

Wishing you and your loved ones

a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2017

Christmas table setting part two.

Last year I used silver trees as a Christmas table centre piece and I really liked the tall tree look of it. So this year I decided to try the same thing with white feather trees instead.

This beautiful decor three in the middle is a Christmas gift from my Mom and it literally arrived the same day that I was setting this table. It is so beautiful! Even my husband said when he saw it that it’s like specifically made for me. Thank you Mom!

These angel wings are store bought but I had to give them a little DIY lift. I got these angel wings from Party City. But when I opened the bag I was little disappointed to see how plain they were. I was hoping that they would have more fulness in them. So, I got my glue gun from the storage with some white feathers. For some reason I had one bag of white feather leftovers, probably from my Easter project. So I glued the whole bag of feathers on top of the existing ones and now they are so much better and what I was hoping for in the beginning. But I didn’t mind the little craft project especially so that I didn’t have to look for the supplies all over the city 🙂

I added one set of little led lights.

Napkin holders are the old tree ornaments, I think I’ve used them like this before? I also fell in love with these candle holders last year and they got to be a part of this year’s table as well. I got them from The Cross.

See that one lightened puppy on the left side of table 😀 I don’t know why, but she intrudes into my photos pretty much EVERY TIME when I’m taking pictures. Well most of the time she sits really nicely so I let it fly 😀

What an exciting week ahead!
