Joffre Lakes

posted in: Outdoors, Summer | 2

We said goodbye to June and welcomed August by hiking the Joffre Lakes. Such a breathtaking place. It was totally spur of the moment kind of trip. Booked the hotel the night before, and we were lucky to get what we wanted since it was a long weekend. We got up early Sunday morning and drove past Whistler and through Pemberton to get to the park. The trail is in really good shape, very easy to walk but it’s a pretty intense uphill hike, not gonna lie! I found myself gasping breath along the way 😀 (I bet it was because of the early morning drive :D) But in the end it’s all worth it!

Joffre Lakes include three different lakes. First one is only 200m from the parking lot and the next two are at the end of the hike. The last one is only about 1km from the 2nd lake and that part is probably the most challenging part of the trail. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad at all and I’ve seen way more difficult trails than that but some people might think it’s more challenging. But once you’re up there at the second lake you might as well go all the way and see the third lake too!

All the lakes have gorgeous turquoise water and beautiful mountain scenery! And you can also see the glacier which is pretty amazing!

Good job!<3

After the hike we kicked our shoes off at the Fairmont in Whistler. In overall the trip was a success!

A couple of notes if you are interested to go and do the hike – be early!!!! This trail is very popular and the parking lot is not that big. We were there before 10am and it wasn’t early enough 😀 The parking lots were almost full and there was a line up to the bathroom! Crazy! So be early. And bring lots of water, bug spray and some snacks with you. What I read from other websites (after our hike :D) they said that the fall is the best time to hike Joffre Lakes! Air is cooler, sky’s clearer and there are no bugs anymore! We are thinking that we should do it again this fall. And if not this fall, maybe in the spring!

XOXO

Weekend Recap

Last weekend was busy one as it tends to be these days. But we finally got started with our long postponed project – painting the walls 😀 We moved here, gosh almost 3 years ago (which got me thinking that I’ve been writing this blog almost 4 years now. Crazy! ) But let’s not get side tracked 😀 We live pretty quiet and settled life, we don’t jump on the walls and things like that 😀 Still we could start seeing life lived in this house. That includes little scratches from opening suite cases against walls, random finger prints, also our vacuum cleaner leaves annoying marks to base boards if we’re are not careful. Anyways our original plan was to get this painting done last year before Christmas 😀 HA. We are still not done yet but so sooo happy to get the project started. Other things that took place in the weekend were that we were cleaning our garage and storage. We took a load of stuff to Value Village and other donation centres. And a little shout out if you didn’t know this but you can donate your old clothes to H&M at least here in Vancouver area. And when you take your old clothes there you get a $5 coupon to shop there per one bag! I think that’s so great! You can read more about it here . I’m saying this because whenever I mention it to my friends they’ve never even heard about it! And yes, they do shop there 😀

What else. Oh yes! Remember when I was looking to buy a new hairdryer? You can read about it here. Well the GHD hairdryer and straightener are FABULOUS! So I ordered their soft curl iron too last week 😀 And I absolutely love it! Here are the best pics I could come up with 😀 Actually I was taking pictures to show my friend the end result.

Last but not least? Still thinking if there was more to this weekend 😀 Can’t remember but we got some fresh mountain air to our lungs this weekend too. Sunday morning we went for a hike. And our dog went for her first swim for the summer. Water in the lake was ice cold but didn’t seem to bother her 😀

Ok now I remember, our toaster broke completely and I lost like half of my thumb nail with it! So gross!!!! The handle came off. We have a 4 slice toaster and the other half handle came off almost two years ago and our toaster have been functioning partially and I’ve been wanting to get rid of it for a long time. But because the other half worked there was no need to throw it away 😀 Well now it got a permission to go! So this morning I toasted my bread slice in the pan with the scrambled eggs 😀 Works that way too!

Getaway

We took a little weekend getaway to Vancouver island, Ucluelet / Tofino. It’s one of my favourite places to go and calm down! 😀 The whole place has this mellow and peaceful vibe that no one can’t escape! I’m hoping that some day I could be lucky enough to get a summerhouse in there! It’s such a beautiful place!

01

Yes. Surfers! I don’t know how they do it this time of the year! 😀

02

We were spoiled with perfect weather! When we were driving there, it was pouring rain! We could barely see the road! But the next few days it was like this the whole time!

The Last Day Of Summer

posted in: Fall, Life, Outdoors | 4

We soaked up the last day of summer by hiking on Sunday. We went back to Chilliwack to hike some more, and with a little research we decided to do the Cheam Mountain!

01

Where we parked our car, the elevation was already 1.4km! The road to drive up there was pretty challenging, even though we’d read beforehand that it was going to be tough. But I had no idea that it was going to be insane!  (When driving it back down, we lost one tire) 😀 The road was crazy, scary and bumpy, going on a cliff side, like I’ve never seen before! I don’t know how we, or everyone else got up there with their cars. When we got up to the parking lot, I was so surprised to see how busy that place was, the parking lot was packed!

02

The hiking trail itself was nice and easy to go up and down.. but because of the thin air up there, it made it pretty hard to go forward. The closer we got to the top, the harder it felt to get up there!

But we finally made it! The elevation on the top was 2.1km. So exhausted, excited (and freaked out, at least me) to look around 😀

We always joke around how she must be having her own secret National Geographic blog or article coming out every other month about her hikes 😀
