My first bouquet of roses for the year. Well to be honest these beauties are from last week after I cleaned out all of my Christmas stuff. I mean I took down our tree and all that right after the New Year and then I gave our house a really good thorough cleaning as I did before Christmas. And I felt that my cleaning wasn’t complete until I got a fresh bouquet of roses. I always struggle with the “after holidays naked home blues”. I wrote in my last post that I’ve been saving little things for January like the marble candle and the new flower vase .. small things like that. And as the Valentine’s Day approaches all I can think of is to fill our house with roses <3
I don’t have green thumbs but I have a couple of tricks that I’ve learned along the way. And the newest trick that I’ve learned is that I mix 2 table spoons of sugar and 2 table spoons of apple cider vinegar with fresh water. It should keep the flowers alive longer. Actually first I use the little “flower food” bag that comes with the roses but after a couple of days when I change the water and cut the stems, I do this little mix.
Like I said I got these roses last week and they are still alive. A couple of them died right away but rest of them are still going strong. I changed the water again today and made a new mix of that “flower power sauce”. Let’s see if they make it to the weekend.
Last but not least for the longest time I did yoga today. It’s been forever since I’ve done it. I had a few moments of desperation during my yoga when I realized how stiff I’ve gotten! My neck and shoulders are pretty much chronically in pain. So I have this little 20min neck and shoulder yoga video that I do here and there. But it’s mostly sitting and stretching. Now I did a good 50min strength yoga and I feel so good and light as a feather afterwards. I love the feeling when blood starts running throughout the body and tomorrow I’m pretty sure that I can feel muscles that I didn’t know that existed. I definitely should start doing yoga more often again. I used to be so good and do it weekly. Now I just have to be patient and start carefully though.

Hi there! How was your week? Do you have any exciting or relaxing weekend plans? I’m one of those to whom chilling at home the whole weekend plan sounds very exciting 😀 I had a busy week, nothing crazy though. Pretty quiet actually comparing to our crazy busy weeks but for whatever reason I felt like I had many things to do. And I was racing the clock at times. Today was so lovely to start my day slowly. I slept as long as I could. And it was so nice to wake up to a clean home. I made breakfast and listened my favourite – Enjoying Everyday Life broadcast. After all that I had such a fun 3 hour phone conversation with my friend. I needed that and it gave me extra energy boost for today. After my friend and I had cured the world I made lunch from yesterday’s leftovers. Then the post man ringed our doorbell. He needed a signature for delivering a package… And I didn’t realize until after he was gone that I had my whole lunch menu all over my teeth. 😀 Wonderful! Poor guy.
I found this beautiful marble candle from Home Sense long time before Christmas. And I patiently waited till January before I took it to use. I kind of like to have something waiting after the holidays. To me, every time after all the Christmas glory packs away, our home feels so naked.
Now I made myself a caramel latte and I was going through and editing some pictures. My next plan for today is to do my nails. I’ve been in a desperate need to do a good old home mani pedi after the holidays. Although I probably should do some quick email responses before all that.
As you can see or read. Nothing crazy over here. Taking it very easy at the moment. And loving every minute of it!
Alright. I’m tuning out for the weekend!
What would you change around your house? Right now or later down the road? Small or big changes? Like do you want sled hammer a couple of walls down or just change a sofa? I’ve been thinking about this lately and decided to make a post about it.
I had a pretty clear idea what I wanted this house to look like before it was built. But I think I still rushed with my choices a bit. When we moved to this house I wanted everything to be ready right when we walked in. You see, I’m not good with unfinished things not to mention unfinished rooms. We didn’t paint our garage right away when we moved and that bothered me SO MUCH! My stomach would actually hurt when I walked in there! Problems eh? But there’s a downside to that. If I was to do it again I would give myself more time. I would live in here a little and see what would work or not. But then another thing that ticks me off is that when ordering furniture sometimes it takes FOREVER to get it. That was one thing I started to do long before we moved in.
I’m not talking about big changes in my case but you know, little things here and there. For now what bothers me the most at the moment is our coffee table. I think that a round coffee table would look better in this space. Another thing is that sofa. I’ve wanted a new sofa for 3 years now! And I’ve been so tempted, many times (last time that I was tempted really bad was last week ) But I keep telling myself that we probably won’t stay here too long and when we get to a new place, of course I want all new things there as well. And my choices for this house might not work in the new one. But on a positive note what I’m most happy about with our choices for this house is the whole dining area. I haven’t got bored with the lighting fixture or the table or the chairs. And I know that the mirror will always have a place somewhere, where ever we go.

I don’t know why but in January or the mid winter in general I always get bitten by a cooking bug! Always. I get this urge to get our freezer stocked up for the long winter months. (Although I rarely get to the point of actually freezing them up.) So I start browsing cookbooks and at the end of my reading I totally feel like Nigella or Jamie Oliver thinking that I can do it all! So when I want to try something new from a cookbook, my limit is to do two new recipes in one week. No more than that. I have to keep my feet on the ground and be realistic. It has happened a couple of times before that when I get one of these cooking inspirations, I get all excited, go shopping for groceries and sometimes I have to get expensive ingredients, different oils for example. And then I realize that I don’t have the time to execute my want to do or try recipes. Something else comes up. I forget. Or simply I just get lazy.
My Christmas gift to myself was Oh She Glows newest cookbook. I got the first one a couple of years ago when it came out, and I loved it so much that I had to get this new one as well. It’s full of notes already. What I usually do with a cookbook in my hands is that I rip a piece of paper or put a little sticky note between the recipes what I want to do in a couple of days or try them in the future. And now that I’ve been browsing through this new book – pretty much all the recipes look so delicious and pretty simple. Easiness and simplicity are really important to me.
A cold weather and snow on the ground, also somebody on the news said that there will be plenty more snow this coming weekend. So I want to make something comforting like chili or stew. I haven’t quite decided yet 🙂 Can’t wait to get started though!
